How It Started

Tree To Table grew out of a simple idea: when a tree comes down in Ann Arbor, it should not end up in a chipper. These are old-growth hardwoods, black walnuts and cherries and maples that have been growing since before most of us were born. They deserve a second life.

I have been working with wood for 30 years. What started as a hobby in my garage turned into a craft, and eventually into a business built around rescuing local trees and turning them into furniture people keep forever.

How It Works

When a tree is removed in the Ann Arbor area, whether from construction, storms, or old age, we step in. We mill the logs into slabs on-site or at our shop, then air-dry and kiln-dry them until they are ready to work. That process alone can take 12 to 18 months.

Once the wood is ready, we build. Every piece is designed around the specific slab, because no two trees are alike. The grain, the figure, the natural edge, the knots, they all tell the story of where that tree stood and how it grew.

What We Build

We specialize in live-edge tables, both coffee tables and dining tables, but we have built everything from shelving to fractal-burned wall art. If it is made of wood, we can help.

The Difference

This is not furniture you replace in five years. It is furniture your grandchildren argue over in the will. Every piece comes with the story of where the tree came from, because that story is part of what makes it yours.
